Interest Rates - ASX

At its meeting on the 2nd of June 2020, the Board of the Reserve Bank Of Australia decided to leave the cash rate unchanged at 0.25%.

The next RBA Board meeting will be held on July 7, 2020 followed by the next Official Cash Rate announcement.

As at the 2nd of June 2020, the ASX 30 Day Interbank Cash Rate Futures July 2020 contract was trading at 99.85, indicating an 45% expectation that the interest rate would remain unchanged and an 55% expectation that the interest rate will reduce to 0.00% at the next RBA Board meeting (see ASX Target Rate Tracker for updated details).

An alternative and/or complementary view to the Market’s opinion can be found on Australian National University’s Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA)’s website.

CAMA provides a “Shadow Board” of eminent Economists that meet the evening before the monthly RBA meeting and make policy recommendations and express their own assessment of the probabilities, both in graph form (3 different time periods) and in commentary about the current economic state of Australia and in an International context over each month.
